LDP President Fumio Kishida elected the 100th Prime Minister of Japan

The 205th extraordinary session of the Diet was convened on October 4th and LDP President Fumio Kishida was elected as Japan's 100th Prime Minister in a leadership election for both the House of Representatives and the House of Councillors. Prime Minister Kishida immediately began organizing his cabinet, received the Imperial Investiture at the Imperial Palace, and launched the new administration. During a press conference that evening, he indicated his intention to dissolve the House of Representatives when the extraordinary session of the Diet term ends on the 14th of this month and to call a general election for the House of Representatives. The election will be announced on October 19th and the voting and ballot-counting will take place on the 31st.
