Tokyo hosted "Nutrition for Growth Summit 2021," a meeting to discuss improvements in global nutrition. Prime Minister and LDP President Fumio Kishida, speaking on the state of malnutrition and the impact of Covid-19, emphasized, "Now is the time to act." He also pledged more than 300 billion yen in support over the next three years to achieve the United Nations target of ending starvation by 2030.
