Prime Minister and LDP President Shinzo Abe attended the Nagasaki Peace Memorial Ceremony. On the 50th anniversary of the entry into force of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, he expressed Japan's resolve, as a country that understands the tragic realities of the atomic bombings, to lead efforts by the international community toward realizing "a world free of nuclear weapons."
