Prime Minister Abe comments, "We are proud that the original, creative thinking of a Japanese researcher has furthered the discovery of truth"

Prime Minister and LDP President Shinzo Abe enjoyed a telephone call with Tasuku Honjo, winner of the 2018 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine and Deputy Director-General and Distinguished Professor at the Kyoto University Institute for Advanced Study. Professor Honjo served as an Executive Member of the Council for Science and Technology Policy under the first Abe administration. The Prime Minister praised his world-class research into a "cancer treatment that works by inhibiting immune regulation," and expressed his expectations for even greater achievements in the future.
