New project teams to promote “Cool Japan”

The Party's Special Mission Committee for Promotion of the Cool Japan Strategy (Chairperson: Ichita Yamamoto, member of the House of Councillors) has established five new project teams (PTs) to give a powerful boost to the "Cool Japan" program, one of the growth strategies articulated by the Abe government.

The five teams are the "Local Cool Japan Discovery Project Team" (Chairperson: Miki Watanabe, member of the House of Councillors), "Center Creation Project Team" (Chairperson: Keisuke Suzuki, member of the House of Representatives), "Human Resources Development Project Team" (Chairperson: Ichita Yamamoto, member of the House of Councillors), "Project Team to Study New Copyrights to Promote Cool Japan" (Chairperson: Masashi Adachi, member of the House of Councillors), and "Content Industry Promotion Project Team" (Chairperson: Takashi Yamashita, member of the House of Representatives).
In his opening remarks at a meeting on February 17, the first meeting after establishment of the PTs, Chairperson Yamamoto said, "(Through the establishment of the PTs) we want to make Cool Japan more central to the growth strategy." He encouraged the teams to have lively and forthright discussions on their areas of focus.

Aiko Shimajiri, Minister in charge of the Cool Japan Strategy, described her expectations for the new PTs and the commitment of the government to work together with the ruling coalition on Cool Japan initiatives.

The meeting also heard presentations of PT guidelines from their chairpersons, and explanations of the "Cool Japan Public-Private Partnership Platform" and other aspects of the Cool Japan Strategy from the Cabinet Secretariat and the Cool Japan Fund.
