After the meeting, Prime Minister Abe and Prime Minister Thongsing of the Lao People's Democratic Republic held a joint press conference. To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Laos presented Japan with elephants, and Japan presented Laos with cherry trees. Prime Minister Abe expressed his expectation that these exchanges would "deepen mutual understanding."
