The Fourth General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties was convened from September 7th to 10th in Seoul, Korea. Mr Yoshimasa Hayashi, Deputy Director-General of the International Bureau, delivered a keynote speech on behalf of the LDP.
The aim of the conference is for political parties of ruling and opposition parties in Asia to meet and deepen mutual exchange among party leaders and officials. The conference has been held every two years since 2000 when it was convened in Manila, Philippines, for the first time.
This year 90 parties from 36 Asian countries attended, the largest number of participants in the event's history. The theme was "peace and happiness in Asia".
On the second day, Deputy Director-General Hayashi delivered his Keynote Address to the General Assembly. In his speech, he touched upon the achievements of the LDP as the ruling party since its foundation and reminded delegates that the LDP is actively engaged in promoting the establishment of an East Asian Community. His speech drew loud applause from all attendees. The Conference closed with the adoption of the "Seoul Declaration" in which participants pledged to cooperate with each participated other to build permanent peace and prosperity in Asia.
