Albanian delegation led by Foreign Minister meets International Bureau officials

May 16, 2006

Mr. Besnik Mustafaj, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania, and his delegation, met with Mr. Kazuo Aichi, former director-general of the LDP International Bureau and former State Minister of Defense Agency, and other deputy director-generals of the Bureau including Daishiro Yamagiwa, Yasuhide Nakayama, Taku Otsuka and Keisuke Suzuki on May 16th, and exchanged views on bilateral relations.
Albania had been a socialist country with a quasi-closed door policy for many years, but largely changed its policy in 1990. Since then, it has been making every effort to return to the global community and strengthen its diplomatic relations with the developed nations.
Albania opened its embassy in Tokyo last November, and has been working to strengthen its relationship with Japan, which was lacking in terms of both mutual visits by individuals and economic trade. The two sides agreed that the current visit to Japan would be used as a catalyst to accelerate the deepening of bilateral relations in the coming years.
