Japan-Russia Summit Meeting: The first step in concluding a peace treaty and resolving the Northern Territories issue;

Prime Minister and LDP President Shinzo Abe and Russian President Vladimir Putin held their 25th meeting and spoke frankly about a range of issues. In accordance with their Singapore agreement, in which they decided to accelerate peace treaty negotiations based on the Japan-Soviet Joint Declaration, negotiations between the two nations' foreign ministers to conclude a peace treaty have already commenced. The two leaders agreed on the development of joint economic activity within the four islands of the Northern Territories, the deployment of humanitarian measures aimed at former residents (flights for grave visits), and other issues. They also agreed to hold another Japan-Russia Summit meeting in June during the G20 Osaka Summit.
