Prime Minister and LDP President Shinzo Abe attended the "Tokyo Conference on Supporting Job Creation and Vocational Training to Facilitate Weapons Reduction for Iraqi Society" together with Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi of the Republic of Iraq. The two leaders later had a summit meeting. Prime Minister Abe began by expressing his congratulations on the suppression of the ISIL Sunni Islam militant organization and the progress that has been made in reconstruction, and said that Japan was prepared to support reconstruction in Iraq, particularly water supply, irrigation, and other infrastructure improvements.
