Prime Minister and LDP President Shinzo Abe and Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte met at the Japan-Philippines Summit. Mr. Abe and First Lady Akie Abe enjoy a cordial relationship with Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and his partner, Cielito Avancena. The two leaders exchanged opinions on the threats from North Korea-primarily nuclear weapons, missile development, and the abduction problem-and also discussed maritime security. They promised to coordinate and cooperate for the success of the ASEAN Summit, which the President will chair in two weeks' time.
