Press conference by Prime Minister Abe Emphasizes bold challenges on growth strategy

June 24, 2014

"There are no taboos or barriers in the Abe Cabinet's growth strategy. The only thing we have is the strong will to pull it off and keep it till the end." So said Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during a press conference at the Prime Minister's Office on June 24, underscoring his cabinet's commitment to stride forward on growth strategy.

The press conference came at the close of the regular Diet session. Prime Minister Abe highlighted the achievements of 'Abenomics', and emphasized that "the virtuous cycle that was engendered in the economy this year must not be something transient; we must not let it end." He then moved on to the new growth strategy recently adopted by the Cabinet, calling it a "bold step forward" and vowing to "take on regulations and systems that have become as rigid as bedrock." He also explained the need for further reform initiatives in labor regulation and other specific areas.

"We will not rest as we move vigorously forward on the growth strategy," Prime Minister Abe said. That morning, he announced his reform and strategy initiatives at the Council for Science, Technology and Innovation and at the Headquarters on Creating Dynamism through Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery Industries and Local Communities. "The Abe Cabinet will break through all barriers to enable the Japanese economy to realize its potential," the Prime Minister stated, making a strong impression on fulfilling his commitments.
