LDP officials exchange opinions with Chinese delegation

March 31, 2009

On March 31, LDP officials headed by Secretary General Hiroyuki Hosoda hosted a dinner meeting for a visiting Chinese delegation led by Mr. Li Changchun, a member of the Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of the People's Republic of China. During the meeting, both parties agreed to make further efforts to strengthen Japan-China relations. To this end, the parties signed a memorandum on the further reinforcement of exchanges and cooperation between the ruling parties of both countries. This memorandum was previously written at the Fourth Japan-China Ruling Party Exchange Council held in Tokyo in February.

Note: Japan-China Ruling Party Exchange Council This council was established to enable deeper discussions on policy matters between the ruling parties of the two countries. As a principle, alternate meetings will be held in each country. This year the LDP and Komeito hosted the Council in Tokyo in late February. The theme for 2009 was "The role of Japan and China for the world's economic recovery ? leading the world from Asia".
